Bayern Munich are intensifying their efforts to sign a key Liverpool player this summer.
Earlier in the transfer window, the Bundesliga giants were heavily linked with a move for Cody Gakpo. However, the Dutch attacker seems happy to remain at Anfield, especially following Liverpool’s strong start to the 2024/25 season under fellow countryman Arne Slot.
With Gakpo seemingly off the table, Bayern have expanded their search within the Premier League — now setting their sights on Luis Díaz to strengthen the left wing.
Barcelona move unlikely
Díaz’s dream switch to Barcelona appears increasingly improbable. Liverpool have no interest in selling the Colombian winger cheaply after an excellent season, and Barça are reportedly more focused on signing Athletic Club star Nico Williams.
That scenario creates an opening for Bayern Munich. According to Empire of the Kop, the German club are admirers of Díaz as well.
CF Bayern Insider’s Christian Falk reports:
“Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has now turned his attention to another standout under Arne Slot — Colombia’s Luis Díaz.
This shift comes after Real Madrid opted not to sell Rodrygo, with Xabi Alonso determined to keep the Brazilian. Although Díaz had reportedly reached a preliminary deal with Madrid, Bayern are now in the race!”
Díaz’s valuation
Journalist Guillem Balague believes Liverpool would seek a fee close to £100 million for the 28-year-old.
That figure would almost certainly eliminate Barcelona from contention, as they’re already struggling to match Nico Williams’ price tag.
Still, if Díaz pushes for an exit and the situation aligns, Liverpool might entertain a lower offer.
Liverpool’s stance
Liverpool are not actively trying to sell Díaz and are in no rush to accept a massive bid.
Even after spending significantly on Florian Wirtz (£100m plus £16m in add-ons), the club remains compliant with financial regulations, regardless of whether they make a big sale this summer.
That said, Liverpool haven’t made an urgent move to extend Díaz’s contract, leaving room for a possible departure if the right deal comes along.
For now, though, the expectation is that Díaz will remain a Liverpool player beyond the September 1 transfer deadline
