David Beckham Purchases Premier League Club for $4 Billion Amid Ongoing Manchester United Ownership Talks
David Beckham, current owner of Inter Miami, has officially announced the acquisition of a Premier League team for an impressive $4 billion. This development comes as the Glazer family, who own Manchester United, had earlier indicated a willingness to consider “strategic alternatives,” which could include a partial or full sale of the club.
Earlier in the year, both INEOS founder Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani submitted separate offers to buy Manchester United. However, the Glazers have yet to respond to these proposals.
Recently, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has reportedly shifted his focus toward purchasing a minority stake in the club. This has reignited frustration among Manchester United supporters, who have long criticized the Glazers’ management and continue to push for a complete change in ownership. Prior to a 2-1 win over Brentford, fans reiterated their demand for full ownership reform.
In an interview with Sky Sports at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Qatar, former Manchester United star David Beckham commented on the situation. When asked about Sheikh Jassim’s offer, Beckham said everyone has their own preference for who should run the club. He reaffirmed his deep connection to Manchester United and its supporters, saying he hopes the right leadership will return the club to its former glory.
Regarding current manager Erik ten Hag, Beckham expressed sympathy for him due to United’s rough start to the 2023–24 season, with six losses in their first 11 matches. He recognized the external pressure and distractions the club is facing, which make the manager’s job even more difficult.
