According to reports, Liverpool are pursuing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer and have proposed a swap deal involving Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa. However, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is holding firm, allegedly demanding both players plus £17 million to finalize the transfer, as per Italian journalist Valter De Maggio.
Osimhen, who joined Napoli in 2020, has made a name for himself as one of Europe’s top strikers. He played a key role in Napoli’s 2022-23 Serie A title win. Following a failed move to Al-Ahli last summer, the Nigerian forward was sidelined and eventually loaned to Galatasaray for the 2024-25 season.
During his stint in Turkey, the 26-year-old impressed with 37 goals and eight assists in 41 appearances, contributing to Galatasaray’s double-winning campaign.
With Osimhen seemingly out of Napoli’s future plans and a reported release clause of £64 million, Liverpool are eager to bring him to Anfield, offering Nunez and Chiesa in return. However, Napoli are insistent on receiving both players along with an additional £17 million to proceed with the transfer.
Liverpool are also keeping tabs on other attacking options, including Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, as they aim to strengthen their frontline.
Nunez and Chiesa’s 2024-25 Season at Liverpool
Neither Nunez nor Chiesa managed to cement their place under Arne Slot last season. Nunez, often behind Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in selection, scored seven goals and registered seven assists in 47 appearances but was criticized for his lack of composure in front of goal.
Chiesa, on the other hand, faced injury setbacks and missed 14 matches due to muscle issues. The Italian winger managed just 466 minutes of game time, scoring twice and assisting twice in 14 appearances.
