Liverpool Remain Keen on Bundesliga Star, But There’s One Key Condition

Liverpool continue to show strong interest in Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike this summer, but any potential deal depends on the future of Darwin Núñez at Anfield.

Reports suggest Napoli are targeting Núñez, who has struggled to consistently deliver since his big-money move from Benfica in 2022.

According to Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg (via X), Liverpool are open to selling Núñez if a suitable offer comes in, with his valuation set at around €50 million (£42 million) plus add-ons. This amount is approximately half of Frankfurt’s asking price for Ekitike.

Ekitike, who recorded an impressive 22 goals and 12 assists across all competitions last season, is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Chelsea. The French striker is reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League, though it’s uncertain whether Liverpool are willing to make another major investment this summer.

The Merseyside club has already spent heavily, committing about £150 million on Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, and they are close to completing a £40 million deal for Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez.

Although Liverpool remain determined to strengthen their squad for a title challenge, a move for Ekitike depends entirely on Núñez’s situation — meaning the upcoming weeks could be crucial
