Darwin Núñez Transfer to Napoli ‘Completed’ Following Agreement with Liverpool, Reports Fabrizio Romano

Darwin Núñez’s exit from Liverpool now seems all but confirmed.

The 26-year-old forward, who struggled to consistently deliver during his time at Anfield, will leave as a Premier League champion. Despite occasional glimpses of quality, his return of just seven goals across all competitions last season — coupled with numerous missed chances — reflects his inability to fully settle on Merseyside.

Núñez, who joined Liverpool in 2022 for £64 million, scored 40 goals in 143 appearances — a noticeable drop from the 48 goals he netted in only 85 games for Benfica. This contrast underlines how he fell short of expectations at Liverpool.

It has become increasingly evident that Liverpool were prepared to move Núñez on, with reports indicating the club made it clear he was free to leave this summer. The Uruguayan has been strongly linked with a move away, and the latest reports suggest a deal with Napoli is now nearly finalized.

According to AreaNapoli, the two clubs have settled on a €43 million (£36.6 million) transfer fee, with Núñez expected to sign a three-year contract. He will link up with manager Antonio Conte, who intends to incorporate him into Napoli’s squad as they look to defend their Serie A title.

While some outlets claim the transfer is effectively done, others note that a few minor details still need to be finalized before an official confirmation is made.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are focused on reinvesting the money from the sale, having already secured signings like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez this summer. With manager Arne Slot aiming to rebuild the team, finding a consistent striker is now a key priority, especially given Núñez’s struggles under both Jürgen Klopp and Slot.

Despite occasional bright moments in a Liverpool shirt, Núñez’s time in England appears to be drawing to a close — and a move to Italy may provide the fresh start he needs
