Liverpool are set to complete their next major summer signing following the £40 million acquisition of AFC Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, in what’s being described as a “fantastic deal” for the club.
The Reds are making a significant statement in the transfer market this summer. With Kerkez’s arrival imminent, their total summer spending is projected to hit £170 million — the highest of any club so far.
Kerkez is joining an impressive list of new recruits that includes Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Armin Pesci. This comes after Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili were Liverpool’s only signings during Arne Slot’s first season in charge.
Slot has been given the freedom to shape his own squad, having led Liverpool to their 20th Premier League title by building on the foundations left by Jurgen Klopp.
While some high-profile departures are expected to help balance the finances, Liverpool are still exploring further additions before the transfer window closes.
The club is also targeting a new striker, with interest reported in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.
In defense, Liverpool are pursuing Crystal Palace and England centre-back Marc Guehi, who is entering the final year of his contract. Reports suggest the Reds are close to agreeing personal terms with the defender.
Former Premier League CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider that Liverpool are expected to finalize a deal for Guehi, calling it a “frightening” move for their rivals.
“It’s a no-brainer if they can get him. All the signals from Guehi’s camp suggest he wants the move,” Wyness said. “Palace also understands his contract situation and are likely willing to sell. This could work well for everyone involved.”
Wyness compared the potential signing to when Virgil van Dijk joined Liverpool from Southampton, noting how transformative that deal was for the club.
“I hate to say it as a rival fan, but it looks like a very smart signing and I believe it will happen,” he added.
Additionally, Liverpool may be open to selling Ibrahima Konate. Sources claim his contract talks have stalled, and the club could prefer cashing in now rather than risk losing him for free later.
“Konate has had some concerning moments, and while Liverpool’s dominance last season masked those mistakes, that won’t always be the case,” said a source to Football Insider.
