Cunha Chooses United for the Journey, Not Just the Champions League

When asked why Matheus Cunha chose to join Manchester United, Berrada offered a clear and confident explanation:

“Matheus decided to join us because he truly believes in the long-term vision we’re building here at Manchester United. It wasn’t a decision based solely on current standings or immediate success, but rather on the bigger picture — the project, the ambition, and the people leading it. He was drawn to the culture we’re fostering and the direction we’re heading.”

“He sees the ambition we have as a club — from the top level of ownership and management to the vision laid out by Jason for the squad. He’s also confident in Ruben as a coach, someone who brings a fresh perspective and a clear footballing philosophy. Together, this leadership group is working with a unified purpose: to rebuild, stabilise, and grow Manchester United in a sustainable way.”

“It’s not just about being in the Champions League this year or the next. We’re laying the foundations for long-term success, and that means attracting players who are motivated by the journey, not just the short-term rewards. Champions League football is, of course, important, but it isn’t the only measure of a club’s direction or potential.”

“And so, when it comes to recruitment, we’re not worried about players who base their decisions purely on current Champions League qualification. If someone only wants to be here for immediate glory and isn’t willing to be part of a bigger rebuild and vision, then frankly, they’re not the kind of player we’re looking for. We want individuals who are committed to the mission and who believe in what we’re trying to achieve over the long haul.”
