Luis Díaz’s future at Liverpool has become uncertain amid growing concerns over his contract situation.
The Colombian winger has been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona this summer. Despite playing a key role in Liverpool’s title-winning campaign — scoring 13 league goals — Diaz is reportedly frustrated with the club for not offering him a contract extension.
Since joining Liverpool, Díaz has been a regular in the starting lineup. Although he experienced some inconsistent periods last season, his contributions were vital to manager Arne Slot securing the Premier League title at Anfield.
Díaz scored 18 goals across all competitions last season. Given his performances, many assumed a contract renewal was imminent. However, negotiations have stalled. His current deal runs until 2027.
Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Díaz and his camp feel disappointed by Liverpool’s handling of the situation. He stated:
“Exclusive: Luis Díaz and his entourage are upset with Liverpool’s stance. They believe the club has broken their word, similar to previous issues during past contract talks and now regarding a possible transfer.”
Both Barcelona and Bayern Munich are closely monitoring Díaz’s situation. While Liverpool previously rejected interest from Barcelona, Díaz’s increasing willingness to consider a move has raised serious questions about his future at the club.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot now faces a significant decision: either secure Díaz’s commitment with an improved deal or risk losing a key player amid growing uncertainty and interest from Europe’s top clubs.
Díaz’s versatility — being able to operate on the wing and upfront — has been a major asset for Liverpool’s title push. Despite recent successful signings like Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez, and contract extensions for stars like Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, the club must prioritize retaining Díaz.
