Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of securing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo, according to The Guardian.
The Red Devils are focused on strengthening their attack after struggling with goal scoring last season. To accommodate new manager Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system, the club is open to selling wide players like Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and potentially Alejandro Garnacho.
Following the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, United turned their attention to Mbeumo. After agreeing on personal terms with the Cameroonian international, United submitted a £55 million bid (including bonuses), which Brentford rejected, holding out for more than the £62.5 million fee paid for Cunha.
Negotiations have since progressed, with both clubs now reportedly settling on a deal that could be worth up to £65 million, depending on add-ons. Mbeumo is expected to sign a contract with wages similar to Cunha’s — around £150,000 per week.
Mbeumo’s Role at United:
Mbeumo’s versatility allows him to operate as a right winger, second striker, or attacking midfielder. Under Amorim’s system, he is expected to fill the right attacking midfield (right CAM) position comfortably.
Last season, Mbeumo enjoyed an impressive Premier League campaign, tallying 20 goals and 7 assists across 38 matches. His output, combined with Cunha’s 21 goal contributions, is set to significantly improve United’s frontline.
United’s Transfer Strategy:
With Mbeumo close to joining and Cunha already secured, United’s focus shifts to signing a top-quality striker — with Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku reportedly being a primary target.
Manager Amorim is eager to finalize all incoming transfers before pre-season begins, ensuring enough time for tactical integration. In addition to a striker, United are also pursuing a midfielder and a goalkeeper.
