Arsenal Finalize £64.4m Deal, Paving the Way for Man Utd to Move for £68.3m Target – Report

Arsenal have reportedly secured an agreement for a £64.4 million signing, which could now clear the path for Manchester United to pursue a £68.3 million-rated player.

Both Premier League clubs had been eyeing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres to boost their attacking options. Arsenal, seeking an upgrade from Kai Havertz, and Manchester United, aiming to replace the underperforming duo of Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee—who together scored just seven league goals last season—were competing for the Swedish striker.

However, recent developments suggest that Arsenal have turned their attention to RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko. As per Spanish outlet Diario Sport, the Gunners are closing in on a deal worth €75 million (£64.4m) plus potential add-ons for the Slovenian international.

Arsenal had previously reached a verbal agreement for Gyokeres, but negotiations reportedly fell apart due to tough stances from Sporting president Frederico Varandas. Though it’s claimed that Gyokeres has an agreement to leave for €60 million, this figure is in question—since Arsenal likely wouldn’t have shifted focus if that were the actual cost.

With Arsenal now backing away from Gyokeres to concentrate on signing Sesko, Manchester United has a clearer shot at landing the Sporting CP star. Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reports that acquiring Gyokeres will cost €80 million (£68.3m).

While Sesko is a talented center-forward, his numbers fall short of Gyokeres’. The 22-year-old scored 13 goals in 33 Bundesliga matches last season, whereas Gyokeres netted a remarkable 39 goals in 33 league appearances, helping Sporting win the Primeira Liga title.
