Delap and Colwill Suspended for Chelsea’s Club World Cup Semi-Final Against Fluminense
Chelsea will have to make do without two of their young stars, Liam Delap and Levi Colwill, for the crucial Club World Cup semi-final clash against Brazilian side Fluminense, as both have been suspended.
The duo received yellow cards during Chelsea’s hard-fought 2-1 quarter-final victory over Palmeiras. According to FIFA regulations, any player who accumulates two yellow cards across the early stages of the competition is handed a one-match suspension.
Midfielder Moises Caicedo was already ruled out of the quarter-finals under this same rule due to bookings in earlier rounds.
FIFA rules also state that yellow card counts are reset after the quarter-finals, so players must stay disciplined through the first few matches. However, a straight red card at any point still triggers an automatic suspension.
Fortunately for manager Enzo Maresca, several key players — including Pedro Neto, Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Cole Palmer — remain eligible for selection, having avoided further bookings.
Chelsea will need to monitor discipline closely in the upcoming matches to prevent further suspensions as they continue their pursuit of Club World Cup glory.
