Even after everything I’ve been through — the headlines, the silence, the judgment — Lionel Messi

“Even after everything I’ve been through — the headlines, the silence, the judgment — Lionel Messi hasn’t turned his back on me. In fact, he’s been one of the very few people who stood by me when the rest of the world walked away. Today, I’m living in an apartment in Barcelona — not just any apartment, but one that Messi himself owns. He gave it to me after I was released from prison, without hesitation, without questions. He didn’t just offer me a roof over my head — he gave me dignity when I had none left.

But Leo didn’t stop there. He’s currently paying the lawyers working to unfreeze my bank accounts, just so I can regain access to my own earnings and start to rebuild my life. Not out of obligation, but because he truly cares. Because that’s who he is — not just the greatest footballer of all time, but one of the most loyal and generous human beings I’ve ever known.

He calls me constantly, asking if I need anything, checking on my mental state. And every time we speak, he reminds me of what we lived through together at Barça — the glory days. He always tells me: ‘Dani, what we did for that club — it meant something. We made history. You gave everything for Barcelona. I cannot allow someone like you to be left suffering in silence. If I did, it wouldn’t just bring shame to you — it would be a disgrace to me, to the fans, and to the club itself. You are a legend. You deserve a better life, a future that reflects your legacy.’

He tells me it breaks his heart that no one else seems to care. That the football world, the very institution we gave our careers to, has gone quiet now that I’m no longer in the spotlight. But Leo… he remembers. He cares. He acts.

Honestly, if it weren’t for him, I don’t know where I’d be today. Probably on the streets. He’s the one keeping me afloat — financially, emotionally, spiritually. For all his fame and success, he hasn’t forgotten the people who stood beside him on the pitch. He hasn’t forgotten me.

To Leo Messi — thank you. For everything. You’ve reminded me what true brotherhood and loyalty look like
