Barcelona Drop Interest in Dumfries Despite €25m Release Clause – Reports
According to MARCA, FC Barcelona have decided not to pursue Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries, despite his €25 million release clause being currently active. The Dutch defender had been identified as a potential target after a standout season that saw him help Inter reach the Champions League final. However, Barcelona are satisfied with their current options at right-back.
Jules Koundé remains the first-choice in that position after a consistent campaign, even scoring the decisive goal in the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid. Coach Hansi Flick is also keen on developing youngster Héctor Fort, and Eric García is seen as another viable backup.
Furthermore, Barcelona’s financial limitations, particularly in relation to Financial Fair Play, mean they cannot risk activating Dumfries’ clause without registration certainty. This same issue stalled their pursuit of Nico Williams.
As a result, the club has no current plans to sign Dumfries and is sticking with its existing defensive lineup.
