Martin Zubimendi has explained why he chose to join Arsenal, nearly a year after rejecting a move to Liverpool. The 26-year-old Spain international completed a £60 million switch to the Emirates, signing a five-year deal.
Last summer, Zubimendi was close to joining Liverpool as they targeted him to strengthen their midfield. However, he stayed at Real Sociedad after pressure from his boyhood club.
Now, after winning Euro 2024, Zubimendi says Arsenal was the right fit:
“This is a huge moment in my career. Arsenal’s style suits me, and I believe the best is yet to come here.”
Arsenal, who finished 10 points behind Liverpool last season, are also closing in on Christian Norgaard and Viktor Gyokeres.Sporting director Andrea Berta added:
“Martin was a key target. His quality and style make him a perfect fit for our squad.”
