Ollie Watkins Could Cost Manchester United £100m – Stefan Borson

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins could cost Manchester United as much as £100 million in total, according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson.

The 29-year-old England international has emerged as a target for new United manager Ruben Amorim, who is looking to boost the club’s attacking options this summer.

According to Football Insider, any potential move for Watkins depends on the future of current striker Rasmus Højlund. Since arriving from Atalanta in 2023 for £72 million, the Danish forward has managed just 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson estimated that United would need to pay Aston Villa around £50 million for Watkins, and also offer him a five-year deal worth approximately £200,000 per week—amounting to another £50 million in wages over the contract.

“Ollie Watkins is not moving to United for less than £200,000 a week,” Borson said. “So we’re talking about a £10 million-per-year deal, plus a £50 million transfer fee—and he’s already 29.”

“It’s not impossible. There’s clearly some interest, but it’s quite surprising that United would consider a £100 million package for Watkins, especially after their recent struggles with expensive signings.”

Watkins, who is under contract at Villa Park until June 2028, was previously the subject of a £40 million bid from Arsenal during the January transfer window.

Man United Also Eye Ivan ToneyIn addition to Watkins, Manchester United are reportedly exploring a potential move for Ivan Toney. Former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the club could make a “surprise” attempt to sign the experienced striker.

Toney, who joined Al-Ahli from Brentford for £40 million last summer, remains highly regarded after an impressive season in the Saudi Pro League—scoring 30 goals and providing six assists in the 2024–25 campaign.
