Liverpool reportedly agreed to a £120 million swap deal involving Harvey Elliott and Anthony Gordon, but the move fell through as Newcastle United reconsidered. The Reds remain admirers of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, while Eddie Howe has shown interest in Elliott, who is open to leaving Anfield this summer. RB Leipzig are also monitoring the 21-year-old.
Last summer, Joe Gomez was set to join Newcastle for £45 million, with Gordon heading to Liverpool for £75 million. A medical for Gordon was even scheduled, but late squad sales by Newcastle — including Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and Yankuba Minteh to Brighton — helped them avoid breaching Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), and they chose to keep Gordon.
Despite signing a new contract in October 2023, Gordon — a boyhood Liverpool fan and close friend of Curtis Jones — remains on Liverpool’s radar, with fresh interest emerging in June 2025.
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool may still pursue Gordon or Isak this summer, though substantial offers would be required. With players like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Jarell Quansah already sold, and Elliott available for transfer, Liverpool could generate funds to reignite talks.
