Chido Obi Assigned New Shirt Number Ahead of 2025/26 Season at Manchester United

Promising Manchester United striker Chidozie Obi-Martin, known as Chido Obi, will wear the No.32 jersey in the upcoming 2025/26 campaign — marking a notable step forward in his development within the squad.

Obi previously wore the No.56 shirt but has now been promoted with a lower squad number, reflecting his growing importance and the club’s confidence in his potential. The change comes as United prepare for their pre-season opener against Leeds United in Stockholm on July 19, where Obi is expected to be part of the squad.

Defender Tyler Fredricson, another standout from the Academy, has also received a new number, moving from 55 to 33. Both players are tipped to play more prominent roles this season.

Interestingly, the No.32 shirt has history at United — once worn by Carlos Tevez — adding excitement among fans about what Obi could bring in the role.

These updates are part of a wider squad reshuffle:

  • Diogo Dalot is now United’s official No.2.
  • Matheus Cunha has taken the iconic No.10 shirt.
  • Other young talents have also received updated squad numbers:
    • Shea Lacey (61)
    • Bendito Mantato (70)
    • Reece Munro (65)

With Cunha and Mbeumo likely playing behind the striker, and Zirkzee operating in a deeper creative role, Obi may be United’s most natural option as a central striker — a potential game-changer up front.

Fan Buzz:

  • “No.32 — same number as Tevez. That’s a good sign!”
  • “Obi could be the breakthrough star we didn’t expect.”
  • “Zirkzee is more of a creator — Obi is the finisher we need.”

July 19 could mark the beginning of a big season for Chido Obi — a name to watch in red.
