Manchester United Confirm Departure of Nine Players as Summer Clear-out Begins
As of July 1, 2025, Manchester United have officially released several players whose contracts expired on June 30. Among them are experienced first-team members Victor Lindelöf, Christian Eriksen, and Jonny Evans, as well as promising academy talents including Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, James Nolan, Tom Wooster, Hubert Graczyk, and Tom Myles.
The announcement has sparked emotional reactions from fans—many expressing gratitude to the veterans while welcoming a new era at Old Trafford.
Victor Lindelöf, now 32, departs after eight seasons at United since his 2017 move from Benfica for £31 million. The Swedish defender made 259 appearances and scored four goals but featured in just 14 league matches last season, as manager Rúben Amorim shifted to a 3-4-2-1 setup.
Christian Eriksen, 33, leaves after three seasons and 113 appearances. He provided 12 assists and played a crucial role in United’s 2023 Carabao Cup triumph. Meanwhile, 37-year-old Jonny Evans concludes his second stint at the club, having rejoined in 2023 and added 23 appearances to his tally.
These exits, combined with Alejandro Garnacho’s £50 million transfer to Arsenal and Marcus Rashford’s loan move to Aston Villa, significantly reduce the club’s wage bill—particularly Eriksen and Lindelöf, who together earned £270,000 per week.
None of the six academy players made senior team appearances. Kingdon and Murray—once viewed as future first-teamers—have been surpassed by new prospects such as Leny Yoro. Goalkeepers Wooster, Graczyk, and Myles, along with midfielder Nolan, are now expected to continue their careers in the EFL or abroad. Wooster is reportedly attracting interest from Derby County.
In an official statement, the club thanked all nine players for their dedication and wished them success in their future careers.

Negotiations also continue with Club Brugge for midfielder Ardon Jashari, further signaling Amorim’s intent to restore Manchester United’s dominance in both domestic and European competitions.
