Liverpool are preparing a decisive final offer for one of the Premier League’s standout defenders, as manager Arne Slot continues to bolster his title-winning squad.
After a dominant 2024/25 campaign in which Slot led Liverpool to the Premier League title in his first season, the Dutchman has been quick to reinforce his side. The blockbuster signing of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen headlined their summer business, with Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong also joining the Reds early in the window.
However, while new signings are arriving, several key departures are also on the horizon. Trent Alexander-Arnold has made a shocking exit, joining Real Madrid on a free transfer. Meanwhile, Luis Diaz and Ibrahima Konate are also attracting interest, with Madrid reportedly eyeing Konate—whose contract runs out next summer—in another potential free transfer move.
With Konate’s future in doubt, Slot is keen to solidify his defense, and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi has emerged as a top target. The England international played a vital role in his country’s run to the Euro 2024 final and has reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool on a five-year contract, including an optional sixth year.
However, negotiations with Crystal Palace have stalled. According to The Sun, Liverpool are preparing one final bid—valued at £40 million—as they grow increasingly frustrated with Palace’s reluctance to sell. The offer will be presented in the coming days as a “take it or leave it” proposal.
Newcastle United, who showed interest in Guehi last summer, could re-enter the race and attempt to trigger a bidding war. Still, Guehi’s contract, which expires at the end of the 2025/26 season, may push Palace to cash in now.
Encouragingly for Liverpool, Guehi is believed to be eager to move to Anfield, with reports suggesting the player has a long-standing desire to join the Merseyside club. Arsenal and Newcastle remain in contention, but Liverpool are hopeful they can secure their man.
