Spanish police have issued a second statement regarding the tragic death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, confirming that the car’s black box has shed more light on the cause of the fatal accident.
According to the investigation, all findings so far confirm that Jota was driving the Lamborghini when the crash occurred on the highway near Puebla de Sanabria. The completed police report will soon be submitted to the local court.
Spanish outlet El Mundo also reported that family members of the victims played a key role in confirming the identities of the driver and passenger, recognizing their personal belongings found at the scene.
While the investigation is still ongoing, the final results have not yet been made public, and it remains uncertain whether they will be fully disclosed.
Jota, who netted 65 goals for Liverpool since joining in 2020, had recently married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso, with whom he shares three children. Tragically, he had posted a video of his wedding just hours before the accident.
Liverpool are set to play their first match since the tragedy on Sunday, with Arne Slot’s side facing Preston in a friendly, scheduled to be broadcast on ITV.
