Liverpool have reportedly opened talks over a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike as they seek to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
According to The Athletic, the Reds have made contact with Frankfurt to explore a possible move for the 23-year-old French forward. Ekitike, who is also attracting interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United, is seen as a more attainable target than Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who Liverpool have also monitored.
Ekitike impressed in the Bundesliga last season, showcasing his agility, technical ability, and eye for goal—traits that could provide an upgrade over Darwin Nunez. Nunez has struggled for consistency since his big-money move to Anfield, and with continued links to the Saudi Pro League, his future at Liverpool remains in doubt.
While Newcastle have already seen a bid for Ekitike rejected, Liverpool’s strong financial backing this window could give them an advantage. The club has already secured Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, but an elite striker remains a priority.
Ekitike may not yet be world-class, but Liverpool believe his ceiling is high. With Frankfurt likely more open to negotiations than Premier League rivals, Liverpool are pushing to beat competition from domestic and European suitors.
