Colombian football icon Faustino Asprilla has urged Luis Diaz to consider leaving Liverpool this summer, suggesting the winger should seek a more lucrative contract as he nears the peak of his career.
Although Diaz still has two years left on his current Liverpool deal, transfer speculation is mounting. The Reds have already turned down a £58.6 million bid from Bayern Munich, yet the 28-year-old’s future remains uncertain.
Reports indicate Diaz has privately told the club he’s open to a move, despite publicly stating he’s content at Anfield. During a recent international appearance, Diaz acknowledged that discussions with other clubs were underway, though he praised Liverpool for their support.
“We’re speaking to a few clubs, which is normal during the window,” Diaz said. “Liverpool have been great to me, and I’m happy here — but we’re just exploring what’s best. Whether I sign a new deal or stay two more years, I’ll be fine with that.”
Insiders suggest Diaz may be willing to depart if the right offer comes along, especially as Liverpool have not yet proposed a contract extension or increased his current £140,000-a-week salary.
Asprilla believes the time is right for his fellow Colombian to secure a deal that matches his value.
“If I were him, I’d make the move,” Asprilla told ESPN. “At 28, this is the ideal moment to cash in on his talents.”
Bayern Munich remain interested and are reportedly preparing a fresh bid after two earlier rejections. Barcelona were also previously linked, but Liverpool maintain that Diaz is a key figure in Arne Slot’s plans — at least for now.
Notably, Diaz was left out of Liverpool’s first pre-season match against Preston North End, despite traveling with the squad — a move that has only fueled the speculation further.
As the transfer window progresses, attention will be on whether Liverpool can hold onto one of their brightest stars — or if a major payday lures him away.
