Bayern Munich star Joao Palhinha responds to Arsenal transfer approach

Inter Milan are among the Serie A clubs keen on Joao Palhinha, while German reports this week indicated Arsenal engaged in ‘serious’ discussions to sign the Bayern Munich midfielder before the Club World Cup.

Teams from Spain, Turkey, and Portugal are also reportedly watching the 28-year-old’s situation at the Allianz Arena closely.

Palhinha, who joined Bayern from Fulham, only made six Bundesliga starts last season and has struggled for regular minutes under Vincent Kompany. Despite this, he insists he remains committed to the club, where his current contract runs until June 2028.

Speaking to Portugal’s Sport TV on Thursday, Palhinha said:

“I have three more years on my contract. I’ll report back on July 29 when pre-season starts. It’s a question that comes up a lot, but I still have three years here.”

Acknowledging the uncertainty over his role after a challenging debut season — hampered by muscle injuries — Palhinha expressed his motivation to prove himself at Bayern.

“I don’t know what the future holds, but I’m at a great club. It wasn’t an easy year, but I’m motivated to show my value again at such a big club.”

German outlet Bild reports that Arsenal remain interested in strengthening their midfield and are keeping tabs on Palhinha, even after securing Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi earlier this summer.
