Real Madrid and Barcelona in Transfer Battle for Dutch Prodigy Kees Smit

Real Madrid and Barcelona are set for a transfer battle over 19-year-old Dutch midfield talent Kees Smit of AZ Alkmaar, reports MARCA.

Smit was the standout performer at the UEFA U19 European Championship, claiming both the top scorer title and MVP award as he helped the Netherlands secure their first trophy in the competition. His composure, passing vision, and ball progression abilities have attracted Europe’s elite.

Real Madrid view Smit as a perfect fit for Xabi Alonso’s tactical approach, but Barcelona are equally interested. Smit’s admiration for Andrés Iniesta could give the Catalan side an edge in negotiations.

Chelsea, Tottenham, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Ajax are also tracking the teenager, though no formal bids have been submitted yet.

For now, Smit is prioritizing his development at AZ Alkmaar, acknowledging that a premature move to a big club could limit his playing time.
