Alexander Isak’s surprise absence from Newcastle United’s 4-0 pre-season defeat to Celtic has fueled speculation over his future, especially with Liverpool’s £120 million interest escalating.
Initially thought to be injury management, manager Eddie Howe clarified post-match that the decision to omit Isak was made to shield the striker from the media glare amid heavy Liverpool transfer speculation.
“It was my decision. He’s fit but we mutually agreed he shouldn’t sit in the stands under scrutiny if he wasn’t playing.”
Howe admitted to ongoing discussions with Isak but insisted the Swedish forward remains committed:
