Chelsea’s pursuit of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze has stalled, with the deal now seen as unlikely due to the player’s unexpected wage demands, reports journalist Simon Phillips.
The Blues had entered talks to sign Eze, offering him the chance to play Champions League football. Fans were particularly eager after Chelsea failed to land Michael Olise. The club has already bolstered their attack with Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro, with Estevao Willian also close to joining.
However, negotiations hit a snag when Eze’s representatives demanded higher wages than Chelsea anticipated. Additionally, his £67.5 million release clause must be paid in full upfront — a condition Chelsea are reluctant to meet, especially for a player approaching his late twenties.
Given Chelsea’s preference for investing in younger talents under 25, the club is now expected to explore other options. Their attention has shifted to RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, who is open to a move but is also attracting interest from Arsenal after a standout season in the Bundesliga.
