Atletico Madrid and Chelsea have opened direct negotiations for the transfer of Renato Veiga, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 21-year-old Portuguese star has already reached personal terms with Atletico and is eager to join Diego Simeone’s squad in La Liga. Capable of playing as a centre-back, left-back, or defensive midfielder, Veiga is a priority signing for Atletico as they strengthen their defensive options.
Chelsea, who signed Veiga from FC Basel for €14 million last summer, are holding out for a €40 million package including add-ons. Atletico are expected to submit their first formal offer soon.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich and other European clubs remain interested, keeping the race for Veiga competitive. The youngster previously impressed on loan at Juventus and was part of Portugal’s Nations League-winning team, adding further value to his profile in the transfer market.
