Chelsea made a last-minute push to hijack Bryan Mbeumo’s transfer but failed as the Brentford winger finalised his move to Manchester United, sources have confirmed.
Brentford held firm on a £70 million fee plus £7 million in add-ons. The deal was not without tension, as United reportedly grew frustrated with Brentford’s handling and suspected a preference for rival offers from Tottenham or Newcastle.
Arsenal had also shown interest, while Chelsea made a dramatic late attempt to land the 24-year-old Cameroonian. However, Mbeumo was determined to join United, where he will reinforce their attacking lineup under new management.
The highly-rated winger departs Brentford after an impressive Premier League spell, renowned for his speed, versatility, and goal threat.
