Marcus Rashford Responds to Gary Lineker’s Comments Following Barcelona Switch
Marcus Rashford was officially introduced as a Barcelona player on Wednesday after being deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United by new manager Ruben Amorim. He joins the Spanish giants on a season-long loan, with the club holding a £26 million option to buy. Should they decide against making the deal permanent, Barca must pay a £4.3 million fee.
The England international has already started training with his new teammates and is set to join the squad on their upcoming pre-season tour of Asia.
Former Barcelona striker and football pundit Gary Lineker has shown his support for Rashford, expressing confidence in his success at the club. Speaking on Sky Sports’ Football Museum podcast, Lineker praised Rashford’s mentality and noted the opportunity presented by Barcelona’s busy schedule. He mentioned that while the club boasts attacking talents like Raphinha, Lewandowski, and Lamine Yamal, squad rotation would allow Rashford chances to shine. He also pointed out that many players who left Manchester United recently have gone on to thrive elsewhere—suggesting Rashford might follow a similar path.
When asked during his Barcelona unveiling about Lineker’s remark that “Marcus is not the problem, Manchester United is,” Rashford responded with calm professionalism.
