Young full-back Héctor Fort, once seen as one of La Masia’s brightest defensive prospects, may be on the verge of parting ways with FC Barcelona this summer. Despite his ambition to break into the first team and earn the trust of new head coach Hansi Flick, Fort has found himself slipping down the depth chart at right-back.
Currently, Jules Koundé—a natural center-back who has adapted well to the right flank—and the returning Èric Garcia, who is impressing in pre-season after a solid loan spell at Girona, are both ahead of Fort in Flick’s tactical setup. This limited pathway to game time, combined with Barcelona’s pressing need to manage its wage bill and generate revenue, has shifted the club’s stance toward a potential transfer.
While the original plan may have been to keep Fort integrated into the squad and continue his development in-house, financial realities and squad congestion have led the board to consider serious offers.
