Barcelona Willing to Part Ways with Marc Casadó as Financial Pressure Mounts

This shift comes despite earlier indications that Casadó was part of Xavi’s long-term project.
Initially, the club had no intention of selling the La Masia product, who has shown tremendous potential and leadership qualities in Barcelona B and during preseason outings. However, with La Liga’s strict financial fair play rules and the club’s aim to operate under the 1:1 spending rule, Barcelona may be forced to make tough decisions to register new signings ahead of the new season.
Why the Sale Makes Financial Sense
Barcelona are still navigating a delicate financial situation, and while they’ve already made some room on the wage bill, it hasn’t been enough. Selling a homegrown player like Casadó — whose departure would count as pure profit on the books — could provide a much-needed financial injection. The club needs to generate funds either through sales or sponsorships to unlock player registrations and remain compliant with league regulations.

Another major factor is the depth in Barcelona’s midfield. As a result, even with Casadó’s potential, consistent first-team minutes seem unlikely.

Importantly, the club is not forcing Casadó out, and the player himself is believed to be focused on continuing his development at Barcelona. However, his agency has been discreetly instructed to remain attentive to offers from interested clubs — particularly from La Liga and other top European sides. If a compelling proposal arrives that meets the club’s valuation, Barcelona will seriously consider a transfer.
Sources suggest that if Casadó is sold, the club may look to include buy-back or future resale clauses, as they still believe in his long-term potential and don’t want to lose control over his career trajectory entirely.
