Liverpool could welcome another major signing next week, according to comments made by the current manager of a potential target. With the transfer window entering its final stretch, the Reds remain determined to bring in at least one more key addition.
The Merseyside club has already been active in the market, securing the likes of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, and Hugo Ekitiké. Wirtz’s arrival in particular set a new club-record transfer fee, underlining Liverpool’s intent to strengthen significantly ahead of the new season.
Despite these high-profile acquisitions, the squad is still short in certain areas. At present, Ekitiké is the only recognised striker available, which has left Liverpool keen to bolster their attacking options. Alexander Isak remains the priority target, but he is not the only player being considered.
Another name strongly linked is Marc Guehi. The Reds believe a deal could be possible, particularly with the defender having just one year left on his Crystal Palace contract. This situation opens the door for Liverpool to negotiate a favourable price.
Glasner Speaks on Guehi’s Future
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner was asked about Guehi’s future during a press conference on Thursday. He confirmed that the centre-back’s situation is uncertain and largely depends on contract talks.
“If Marc wishes to sign a new contract, he can stay with us,” Glasner explained in quotes published by The Guardian. “If not, then we will need to reassess. Clubs like ours, especially those competing in Europe, must work under much tighter financial regulations compared to the Premier League. Selling players is sometimes necessary to comply.”
Glasner admitted that Palace will need to make a decision in the next 11 days, as the window nears its close. Chairman Steve Parish has already indicated the club’s willingness to sell Guehi rather than risk losing him for free next summer.
According to several reports, Liverpool are leading the race. The BBC has gone as far as to suggest that Guehi is “likely to join Liverpool” before the deadline.
