Darwin Núñez has continued to impress in Saudi Arabia, scoring in Al-Hilal’s final pre-season game on Saturday. The former Liverpool forward, who joined the club earlier this month in a deal worth around £46.3 million, has quickly made his mark.
The 26-year-old has found the net in all three of his pre-season appearances, helping Al-Hilal secure victories over Aarau, Waldhof Mannheim, and Al-Fayha. This form stands in contrast to his mixed spell at Liverpool, where he scored 40 goals in 143 matches but struggled for consistency.
Last season, Núñez often played a reduced role under new manager Arne Slot, with 30 of his 47 appearances coming from the bench. Liverpool have since strengthened their attack by signing Hugo Ekitike for £69 million, while also targeting Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
However, progress on Isak’s move has stalled. Liverpool’s £110 million offer was rejected, as Newcastle are holding out for closer to £150 million. The Swedish striker has reportedly pushed for the transfer, accusing Newcastle of breaking promises by blocking his exit.
