Liverpool have reportedly made a renewed attempt to land Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with claims suggesting the Swedish forward could leave St. James’ Park before the transfer deadline.
According to broadcaster Richard Keys, the Reds have submitted a second proposal worth around £140 million (€162m, \$190m) after their initial £110m bid was turned down earlier this summer. Newcastle are said to be holding out for closer to £150m (€173.8m, \$203m), though speculation about Isak’s future continues to grow.
The 25-year-old, who recorded 23 goals and six assists in 34 league matches last season, has reportedly agreed personal terms with Liverpool. Reports also claim he has stepped away from Eddie Howe’s first-team training and even vacated his Newcastle residence, adding weight to rumours of an imminent switch.
TEAMtalk journalist Fraser Fletcher first revealed back in July that Isak had expressed his wish to join Liverpool, and since then the transfer saga has intensified, with Real Madrid also monitoring the situation.
Speaking on beIN Sports, Keys stated:
“Liverpool’s first bid was £110m. Now they’ve returned with a second offer structured as £80m upfront and £60m next year. Madrid are circling too, and I doubt Isak would take such risks unless he was fairly confident a deal would happen before the window closes.”
However, no other major outlets have yet confirmed Liverpool’s supposed second bid. Howe himself has only admitted to the first approach but stressed the need for clarity soon:
“Nothing has changed. The door remains open. It’s up to him to decide, and we’d like this resolved quickly because distractions don’t help.”
Although Isak sat out Newcastle’s opening match against Aston Villa, Howe has not ruled out his return to the squad. Still, with Liverpool pushing hard and Madrid watching closely, the striker’s future remains one of the biggest stories of the transfer window.
