Liverpool have officially updated their senior squad list, adding another attacking option to the first team.
Manager Arne Slot has long emphasized the importance of having six forwards to fit his system, which requires three attacking roles. His strategy ensures reliable cover across every position in the frontline. This approach was one of the key reasons Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa last summer. The Italian international, who impressed in his debut season, remains vital thanks to his ability to play both centrally and out wide.
Despite that, the Reds have lost several important attackers. Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, and Ben Doak all left on permanent transfers, while the tragic passing of Diogo Jota left the team without another proven forward. To fill part of the gap, Liverpool signed Hugo Ekitike, who has made an immediate impact with three goals and an assist in his first three appearances. Still, the senior options currently include only Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Chiesa, and Ekitike.
Liverpool’s continued pursuit of Newcastle striker Alexander Isak highlights their need for more depth. Yet even if Isak joins, Slot would still be one attacker short of his preferred six-man setup.
That is where Rio Ngumoha steps in. The 16-year-old winger, soon to turn 17, has forced his way into first-team contention after a brilliant pre-season, scoring and assisting five times in five games. He then made history by netting the winner against Newcastle on his Premier League debut, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool’s history.
Initially listed as an academy player, Ngumoha has now been officially registered on Liverpool’s website as part of the senior squad, classified as a forward. Beyond his early achievements, the teenager has set lofty ambitions, declaring his long-term dream of winning the Ballon d’Or.
With his official promotion, Liverpool fans can expect to see much more of Ngumoha this season as he begins writing his own chapter in the club’s history.
