‘Take Time and Study’: Fans Call for Liverpool Player to Be Benched After Newcastle Struggles

Liverpool secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Monday, 25 August 2025. The Reds initially raced to a 2-0 lead, but Newcastle fought back to level the score at 2-2. In the end, Rio Ngumoha’s late goal ensured Liverpool claimed all three points.

Despite the win, the team showed defensive weaknesses, conceding goals that many felt could have been prevented. Milos Kerkez, in particular, had a difficult match. He made several noticeable errors, including losing track of Bruno Guimaraes before Newcastle’s equalizer, and struggled to contribute effectively in attack. Fans also noted that he still appears somewhat vulnerable in Liverpool’s defensive line.

As a result, a portion of the Liverpool fanbase is urging manager Arne Slot to consider benching Kerkez in favor of Andy Robertson for upcoming matches. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), supporters shared their opinions:

Ollie Salami: “Kerkez you can hold bench as well, take time and study Robertson.”

Cremin: “Kerkez may need to be on bench against Arsenal.”

Glizz McGuire: “Kerkez should not be starting. Leave him on the bench and have Robbo start at LB from here on out.”

Kevin Thompson: “Not keeping clean sheets with defenders like this playing for us. Kerkez needs to sit on bench and learn the game at the AXA.”

LFCLaurie: “Kerkez reminds me of Alberto Moreno.”

Fans’ reactions reflect a concern that Kerkez may need more time to adapt before consistently starting for Liverpool.
