Liverpool battled their way to a 3-2 victory over Newcastle United in their Premier League clash at St. James’ Park on Monday, 25 August 2025.

The Reds looked in control after racing into a 2-0 lead, but defensive lapses allowed Newcastle to fight back and level the score at 2-2. In the end, it took a late strike from youngster Rio Ngumoha to secure all three points for Arne Slot’s side.

Despite the win, Liverpool’s defensive display raised concerns. The team conceded avoidable goals, highlighting vulnerabilities at the back. One player in particular, Milos Kerkez, came under scrutiny for his shaky performance. He was caught out of position for Bruno Guimaraes’ goal, made a number of errors, and failed to provide much attacking support from the left flank.

As a result, many Liverpool supporters have taken to social media to call for Kerkez to be dropped from the starting lineup. They believe he needs time to develop and learn, with some suggesting that veteran Andy Robertson should return as the first-choice left-back.

Reactions from fans on X (Twitter) reflected this frustration. One wrote: “Kerkez, you can hold the bench as well—take time and study Robertson.” Another added: “Kerkez may need to be on the bench against Arsenal.” Others echoed the same sentiment, insisting Robertson deserves to start, while some even compared Kerkez to former Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno, known for his defensive lapses.

For now, the debate continues among supporters, but the decision ultimately rests with Arne Slot as Liverpool prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
