“Take time and learn”: Fans call for Liverpool star to be dropped after Newcastle display

Liverpool managed to grind out a dramatic 3-2 victory over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Monday, August 25, 2025.

The Reds stormed into a 2-0 lead but allowed Newcastle back into the game with two soft goals. Rio Ngumoha’s late strike eventually secured the win, but defensive lapses left many supporters concerned.

One player singled out was Milos Kerkez, who struggled throughout the game. The left-back lost track of Bruno Guimarães for his goal and offered little going forward, raising questions about his readiness to be a first-choice defender.

Because of this, several Liverpool fans on social media are urging manager Arne Slot to take Kerkez out of the starting lineup and restore Andy Robertson at left-back:

  • “Kerkez you can hold the bench, take time and study Robertson,” wrote one fan.
  • “Kerkez may need to be benched against Arsenal,” suggested another.
  • Others added that the team can’t keep clean sheets with performances like his, with one even comparing him to former Red Alberto Moreno.

For many supporters, the message is clear: Kerkez still needs time to adapt, while Robertson’s experience is needed for upcoming big matches
