Liverpool have completed the marquee signing of their summer, reaching a £125 million agreement with Newcastle for Alexander Isak. The deal ends one of the longest-running sagas of the transfer window and sets a new British record, surpassing the £105m fee the Reds paid earlier for Florian Wirtz.
The Merseyside club are also pushing to secure Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi for around £35m. Talks are at an advanced stage, with Liverpool keen to wrap up the move quickly while Palace rush to find a replacement.
It has been a summer of unprecedented spending at Anfield. Alongside Wirtz and Isak, Liverpool have brought in Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Hugo Ekitike and Giovanni Leoni, taking total expenditure beyond £300m.
These investments have been offset in part by key departures. Jarell Quansah, Luis Díaz, Ben Doak and Darwin Núñez have all been sold, raising over £150m. The approach has given new head coach Arne Slot the freedom to overhaul his squad aggressively while keeping finances balanced.
Behind the scenes, Liverpool also turned down a bold offer involving Federico Chiesa. According to The Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, AC Milan showed strong interest in the Italy international and even proposed a potential swap deal for Rafael Leão. However, Liverpool rejected the idea, opting to keep Chiesa and avoiding any move for the Portuguese forward.
Attention now shifts to finalising Guehi’s arrival. With Crystal Palace struggling after their attempt to sign Brighton’s Igor fell through, Liverpool are hopeful of completing one of their most ambitious and expensive transfer windows in recent memory.
