Mohamed Salah has spoken out against a Liverpool fan account, Anfield Edition, after it mocked former Reds attackers Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez on social media.
The controversy began when the account compared Díaz and Núñez, who both departed this summer, to Liverpool’s new arrivals Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak. The post suggested that Wirtz and Isak represented a major upgrade, which Salah considered disrespectful to his ex-teammates.
This summer, Liverpool broke the British transfer record twice, spending £116.5 million on Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and £125 million on Isak from Newcastle United. The pair are now set to form a new-look attack alongside Salah.
Meanwhile, Díaz joined Bayern Munich in a £65.5 million move, while Núñez completed a £46 million transfer to Al Hilal, with additional bonuses included. Both players, however, played vital roles in Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season.
Reacting to the fan post, Salah replied directly: “How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
His response quickly gained momentum, earning more than 200,000 likes in less than two hours. Many fans praised him for standing up for Díaz and Núñez.
During their time at Anfield, Díaz—signed from Porto in 2022—scored 41 goals and provided 23 assists in 148 matches. Núñez, who also arrived in 2022 from Benfica, recorded 40 goals and 26 assists before his exit.
