Liverpool fans lit up social media after footage emerged of new signing Alexander Isak in training with Sweden.
The 25-year-old striker finally sealed his long-awaited move to Anfield on deadline day, joining the Premier League champions for a British-record £125 million fee on a six-year deal.
Isak had not featured in a competitive fixture since Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat to Everton on the final day of the 2024/25 season. For much of the summer, he remained silent, only breaking cover with a dramatic statement accusing Newcastle of going back on their word—claims the club firmly rejected.
Throughout the saga, Sweden head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson maintained close contact with Isak. The 49-year-old manager continued to call him up for the upcoming internationals against Slovenia and Kosovo, despite the forward’s lack of recent minutes.
Alongside Isak, other Premier League-based Swedes — Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres, Newcastle’s Anthony Elanga, Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall, Newcastle defender Emil Krafth, and Leeds full-back Gabriel Gudmundsson — were all included in the squad for the next World Cup qualifiers.
With Sweden preparing for Friday’s clash in Ljubljana, training videos posted on the national team’s official channels gave fans their first look at Isak since his Newcastle exile.
The clips quickly went viral, with supporters marvelling at his sharpness:

Toni Kroos’ Brutal Verdict
While Premier League fans know Isak well, Toni Kroos believes that’s not the case in Germany. Speaking on his podcast with his brother Felix, the ex-Real Madrid star suggested many German fans don’t even recognise Liverpool’s new forward:
“I’d guess half of our listeners have never even heard of Isak. You can decide for yourselves. But yes, it’s a huge amount of money.”
Isak is no stranger to German football, having played for Borussia Dortmund between 2017 and 2019, though he made just 13 appearances during his time in the Bundesliga
