Arsenal are reportedly in discussions to secure what could become their seventh signing of the summer, with initial contact made with Rennes regarding the highly-rated young defender Jeremy Jacquet.
Mikel Arteta has already overseen an active transfer window, bringing in players such as Viktor Gyökeres, Martín Zubimendi, and Noni Madueke to strengthen a squad that has finished second in the Premier League for three consecutive seasons. At just 20 years old, Jacquet has already established himself in Rennes’ senior team following a loan spell at Clermont. Although he has made only 12 Ligue 1 appearances, his strong physical presence, tactical versatility, and standout performances with France’s U19 team — where he was named in the Team of the Tournament at the Euros — have marked him as one of France’s top defensive prospects.
Rennes reinforced their belief in him by extending his contract until 2029 earlier this year, praising his maturity, athleticism, and leadership potential. Arsenal view him as a potential long-term solution for their backline.

This potential move comes amid uncertainty over Jakub Kiwior, signed in 2023 for £17.6 million. While Arteta values Kiwior as an important squad member, interest from Serie A clubs could tempt him away. Oleksandr Zinchenko has also been linked with a departure, adding urgency to Arsenal’s defensive planning.
