Chelsea have been hit with 74 alleged breaches of Football Association regulations relating to agents, intermediaries, and third-party ownership of players. The incidents span from 2009 to 2022, with most of the charges tied to the period between the 2010/11 and 2015/16 seasons, during Roman Abramovich’s ownership of the club.
The FA confirmed that Chelsea must respond to the charges by September 19. In a statement, the club’s current ownership group—led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital—revealed that these breaches were uncovered and self-reported during the due diligence process of their 2022 takeover.
Chelsea emphasized their cooperation with the authorities, stressing their “unprecedented transparency” throughout the investigation and their intention to resolve the matter quickly.
While the outcome remains uncertain, possible sanctions could be imposed. However, given the fact that the club disclosed the breaches voluntarily, there is speculation that Chelsea may face a financial penalty rather than a points deduction.
