Manchester United insiders have identified one of the club’s recent signings as their best addition in years. After a period of questionable recruitment following Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, the Red Devils are eager to see more success from their transfers.
In recent seasons, signings such as Jadon Sancho, Antony, Andre Onana, Manuel Ugarte, and Rasmus Hojlund have struggled to live up to expectations despite significant fees. United are now placing hope in their latest trio—Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo, and Benjamin Sesko—who collectively cost over £200 million.
One of the club’s few recent transfer successes was Bruno Fernandes, signed for £47 million. According to a report by Andy Mitten in The National, another addition is also highly praised behind the scenes: Noussair Mazraoui.
Mazraoui: A Versatile Asset
Sources at United claim that Mazraoui is “the best signing they have made in years.” The Moroccan international joined from Bayern Munich for around £12.8 million and has showcased his versatility, featuring as a central defender, wing-back, and even as a No.10 in a game under Erik ten Hag.
Teammates and coaches reportedly admire Mazraoui’s understanding of the game and his consistency, often delivering solid 7 or 8/10 performances week after week. Despite his experience, United staff were pleasantly surprised by his agility, strength, and aggression.
Settling Into English Football
Mazraoui reflected on his first season in England, mentioning that players like Mo Salah, Kaoru Mitoma, and Anthony Elanga have been his toughest opponents. While he has been used in multiple roles, he has a preferred position where he feels most comfortable.
“I’ve been playing for a long time as a right full-back,” Mazraoui explained. “Recently, I’ve also played as a right centre-back. Right full-back is my favourite position. That’s where everything feels automatic. When I get the ball, I know my options and what I can do. Defending comes naturally, and I can enjoy playing more.”
Looking Ahead
Mazraoui missed United’s first two games of the current season but started in the recent last-minute win over Burnley. He is expected to feature again in Sunday’s highly anticipated derby against Manchester City.
