Chelsea are still uncertain about the length of time Liam Delap will be sidelined with a hamstring injury, according to journalist Matt Law.
Delap arrived at Stamford Bridge this summer from Ipswich in a £30 million deal. He quickly made an impression, scoring his first goal for the Blues at the Club World Cup and netting twice in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan. The 22-year-old also started two of Chelsea’s opening three Premier League fixtures.
However, Delap’s progress was halted when he was forced off just 15 minutes into the clash against Fulham with a hamstring problem. Initial reports suggested he would be out for around ten weeks, returning to training in November and building fitness in time for the festive schedule.
Speaking on The London Is Blue Podcast, Law revealed the situation remains unclear:
“The club aren’t fully certain still of exactly how long it will be. I know that there was a scan on Monday, but Chelsea are still waiting on further scans to be absolutely sure of a time scale on that hamstring injury.”
Despite Delap’s setback, Chelsea opted not to sign another striker. Although they explored a move for Conrad Harder, the club ultimately decided to recall Marc Guiu from his loan spell to provide additional attacking cover.
