Malouda Urges Chelsea to Target Guehi, Maresca Reacts

Former Chelsea winger Florent Malouda has encouraged the club to pursue Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the upcoming January transfer window. Malouda, a key player in Chelsea’s 2012 Champions League triumph, believes the 23-year-old centre-back would provide a major boost to the Blues’ backline.

Speaking about Guehi, Malouda said he would be an excellent signing for Chelsea. Having risen through the club’s academy before moving to Crystal Palace in 2021, Guehi has since built a strong reputation for his leadership, calmness, and maturity in defense. Malouda’s opinion carries weight, given his insight into Chelsea’s tactical and defensive demands.

Guehi has developed into one of Palace’s standout performers, known for his positional awareness, passing range, and ability to read the game. With Chelsea struggling to find consistency in defense this season, securing a player of his Premier League experience could prove highly beneficial.

Chelsea assistant coach Enzo Maresca, however, responded with caution. While acknowledging Guehi’s qualities, he stopped short of supporting an immediate transfer. Instead, he highlighted the club’s current focus on maximizing the potential of the existing squad, while also assessing different possibilities ahead of the next window.

Maresca’s comments suggest that Chelsea is monitoring Guehi’s progress but has yet to commit to a move. With the team still in transition under new management, any significant transfer decisions are expected to be taken with careful consideration.
