Liverpool to Marc Guehi pursuit amid Van Dijk Concerns

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has called on his former club to make a renewed push for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in the January transfer window. According to Murphy, the England international would be the perfect signing to provide much-needed defensive support for captain Virgil van Dijk.Liverpool were reportedly close to sealing a £35 million move for Guehi on transfer deadline day last month, but the deal fell through after Crystal Palace failed to secure a suitable replacement in time. Since then, Guehi has continued to impress, notably delivering an outstanding performance in Palace’s 2–1 victory over Liverpool at Selhurst Park two weeks ago.The Reds are currently struggling with defensive depth, with only three senior centre-backs available following Giovanni Leoni’s season-ending ACL injury. Although the club initially intended to revisit the deal next summer — when Guehi’s contract with Palace expires — growing interest from Real Madrid and other top European sides has increased the urgency.Murphy believes Liverpool cannot afford to delay their move.> “We’ve got around 11 weeks until the window opens,” he said. “The question is whether they look for a short-term fix or go straight for Guehi. I’d make the move in January — he’s ideal for Liverpool.> “He knows the Premier League, needs no adaptation time, and has everything — composure, pace, technical ability, and leadership. He’s exactly what they need. I’d go all out for him.”Murphy also hinted that Liverpool maintain a positive relationship with Guehi’s representatives, which could strengthen their position should they decide to reignite talks once the transfer window opens
