Liverpool forwards Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah have both issued public apologies to the club’s supporters following their missed chances during the 2–1 defeat to Manchester United at Anfield. The pair admitted that there was “no excuse” for failing to convert clear opportunities in such a crucial fixture.
Salah, who squandered a major chance to level the score in the second half, described the defeat as devastating and accepted responsibility for the team’s ongoing struggles. The Egyptian forward took to social media, writing:
“I’m completely devastated. There’s absolutely no justification for this. We had everything we needed to recover — we’re still in the title race and can win it for the fans. We are Liverpool, and we never give up. I apologize, but it’s too early for an optimistic message. We’ve let you and ourselves down.”
The result marked Liverpool’s fourth consecutive defeat, leaving them trailing in the title race and sitting in fourth place in the Premier League. Despite significant summer investments, Arne Slot’s side has struggled to find consistency, and the loss to their long-time rivals has raised further concerns.
Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor criticized both Salah and Isak for their lack of chemistry on the pitch, suggesting that manager Arne Slot might need to make bold changes.
“Salah’s not performing. He and Isak have no connection right now,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. “Whenever Salah tries to play him in, the movement isn’t there. Maybe it’s time to give someone like Hugo Ekitike or Jeremie Frimpong a chance.”
Agbonlahor added that Salah’s decision-making and lack of defensive contribution have made him less effective compared to last season. He argued that temporarily removing him from the starting lineup could benefit both the player and the team.
Liverpool now turn their attention to the Champions League, where they face Frankfurt, before a tough Premier League trip to Brentford next weekend
