Keyrol Figueroa: Liverpool’s Next Rising Star from the Academy
Liverpool Football Club has long been a breeding ground for exceptional homegrown talent. From Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has lifted every major trophy with the Reds, the club’s academy has consistently produced players who represent the very essence of Anfield. Now, attention is turning to the next promising name emerging from Kirkby — Keyrol Figueroa.
Born in 2006, the Honduran-American forward has become one of the standout prospects in Liverpool’s youth ranks. Known for his blistering pace, sharp technique, and natural eye for goal, Figueroa joined the Reds at under-14 level and made his under-18 debut at just 16 during the 2021/22 season. His performances have reportedly impressed head coach Arne Slot, who could soon reward the teenager with a senior call-up.
Football is in Figueroa’s DNA. He is the son of Maynor Figueroa, a former Premier League defender best remembered for his remarkable goal from his own half while playing for Wigan Athletic against Stoke City — a moment still celebrated in football highlight reels. Now 42, Maynor continues to play in England’s lower divisions, but it’s his son who’s capturing headlines, having once scored an incredible 90 goals in a single youth season.
Capable of playing both through the middle and on the right wing, Keyrol has already made an impact on the international stage. Representing the USA Under-17s at the CONCACAF U17 Championship in Mexico, he scored seven goals in seven matches, helping the team finish as runners-up.
This season, Figueroa has continued his fine form in Premier League 2, netting five goals in seven games — performances that have fueled speculation of a first-team debut in the near future.
Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Figueroa grew up studying some of football’s greatest strikers.
“When I was younger, I watched Drogba, Aguero, Suarez, and even Torres when he was at Atletico,” he once shared. “I tried to shape my game around them.”
His recent hat-trick in a 4–1 Merseyside derby victory over Everton’s U21 side further underlined his growing maturity and confidence. Reflecting on that performance, Figueroa said:
“It means a lot, especially after dealing with setbacks like injuries and limited minutes. I just kept believing and working hard. Scoring against Everton is special, but it’s all about the team.”
Breaking into Liverpool’s senior squad remains one of football’s toughest challenges, but Keyrol Figueroa has all the attributes to make that leap. Whether his debut comes this season or the next, one thing is clear — his name is one Liverpool fans will be hearing for years to come.
