Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso is reportedly preparing to target three Premier League midfielders — along with Paris Saint-Germain’s Vitinha — as he looks to strengthen his squad following the defeat to Liverpool.
Alonso’s return to England ended in disappointment, as his Real Madrid side fell 1–0 to Liverpool in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night. Alexis Mac Allister’s decisive header in the 61st minute secured victory for the Reds, and the Argentine’s commanding display appears to have caught Alonso’s attention.
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Mac Allister features on a four-man transfer shortlist compiled by Alonso, who is eager to build on Real Madrid’s already star-studded midfield.
The current Real Madrid squad boasts an impressive selection of midfielders, including Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Güler, Aurélien Tchouaméni, and Dani Ceballos. Yet, reports suggest Alonso still wants to add a “game-changing passer” capable of unlocking the tightest defences in European football.
Alongside Mac Allister, Alonso’s list is said to include Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, and PSG’s Vitinha — all known for their exceptional passing range and composure in possession.
Mac Allister is under contract with Liverpool until 2028 and is currently valued at around £90 million. Fernández, whose Chelsea deal runs until 2032, carries an estimated value of £70 million, while Wharton — the youngest of the three at 21 — is tied to Crystal Palace until 2029 and is valued at approximately £52 million.
Wharton has previously drawn interest from both Manchester United and Manchester City. Palace chairman Steve Parish recently suggested that the England international aspires to play Champions League football “with us, if possible — or with another club.”
Meanwhile, Vitinha remains under contract with PSG until 2029, with a market value of roughly £79 million. Any potential moves for these players are expected to take place in the summer of 2026, rather than the upcoming January window.
